I believe rap music is overlooked for what we can learn from it due to where it began and its origins within hip hop culture which causes many people to see it more as entertainment rather than something that we can study and learn from. The start of rap music began as entertainment at parties by rappers, who would deliver witty lines accompanied with beats which purpose was gather people together to have a great time. However, over time Rap music kept progressing into lyrical music that discussed about sex, drugs, and partying which changed many people’s opinions about rap. With a change in shirt in rap music from entertainment to more explicit music many people began to associate rap music with violence, sexual exploitation, and excess which led many to change their opinions towards Rap music. Even though, there is lots in rap music to learn from however many don’t see the potential importance of what we can learn form it because of where rap music originates from and its explicit lyrics within its music.
